Are Kegels enough on their own for most women?

For some women, yes. Done correctly and consistently, Kegels can make a real difference for mild pelvic floor weakness, especially in younger women without significant childbirth or hormonal changes. For many other women, especially after pregnancy, around menopause, or with age, pelvic floor exercises alone do not produce the strengthening they hope for, even after months of effort. That is when an additional approach can help.

How is HIEMT different from doing pelvic floor exercises at home?

Voluntary contractions, however well done, only engage a portion of the muscle fibres. HIEMT triggers contractions throughout the muscle group at an intensity you cannot reach yourself, in numbers (thousands per session) you would never match in home practice. It does not replace good Kegel technique, it complements it. Think of pelvic floor exercises as the daily foundation and HIEMT as the deeper strengthening course.

Is HIEMT safe after childbirth?

After the standard 6-week postnatal clearance from your GP or midwife, yes. Before that point, please wait. The body needs that initial recovery window for healing, and any electromagnetic muscle work belongs after that, not during. If your postnatal recovery has been complicated in any way, talk to your GP and a women's health physiotherapist first before booking HIEMT.

How many HIEMT sessions do most women need?

Accepted Answer

Most women see noticeable improvement after a course of six sessions, spaced two to three days apart. Some women feel a difference after the first two sessions; others need the full course before the change is steady. After the initial course, many women come back for occasional maintenance sessions every few months. We agree the right schedule together based on how you are responding.

Can I do HIEMT and Kegels at the same time?

Yes, and I encourage it. Kegels build the everyday awareness and control of your pelvic floor; HIEMT builds the deeper strength. They work together rather than against each other. I will go through good Kegel technique with you in the first session if you would like, so your daily pelvic floor exercises and your studio sessions reinforce each other.

Who should not have HIEMT?

Accepted Answer

HIEMT is not for: anyone who is pregnant, anyone within the first six weeks postnatal, anyone with a pacemaker or other electrical implant, anyone with metallic implants in the pelvic region, anyone with active pelvic or urinary infection, and anyone with new or unexplained pelvic symptoms that have not yet been seen by a GP.
