Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the beauty treatments FAQ — here you’ll find answers to the most common questions I’m asked at Skincare & Waxing.
If your question isn’t covered in this beauty treatments FAQ, feel free to get in touch.

GENERAL

You can book online anytime through my Fresha booking page — just click the “Book Now” button on this website. You can also call or text me on 07821 781807. I do ask that where possible, you book online as it helps me manage my day and means you can choose the time that works best for you.

I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a cancellation fee. I understand things come up — just let me know as early as you can so I can offer your slot to someone else.

I’m based at 10A Freckleton Street, Kirkham, Preston, PR4 2SP. The treatment room is in a multi-practitioner building with a private, comfortable setting. There is on-street parking available nearby.

My hours vary by day: Tuesday: 12:00 – 20:00 Wednesday: 09:30 – 20:00 Thursday: 11:00 – 20:00 Friday: 11:30 – 20:00 Saturday: 10:00 – 18:00 I’m closed on Mondays and Sundays. Saturday and Wednesday evenings tend to fill up fastest, so I’d recommend booking ahead for those slots.

When you arrive, I’ll welcome you and we’ll have a quick chat about what you’re looking for, any skin concerns, and your medical history where relevant. I want you to feel comfortable and informed before any treatment begins. If you’re unsure which treatment is right for you, a Skin Analysis (£30, 1 hour) is a great starting point — there’s no pressure and no treatment is performed during that session.

I offer professional waxing (face, body, bikini, Hollywood/Brazilian), bespoke facial treatments, skin analysis, lash lifts, brow shaping and tinting, semi-permanent eyebrows, advanced electrolysis (skin tags, thread veins, milia removal), fat freezing, pressotherapy, and HIEMT pelvic floor muscle strengthening. You can see the full list with prices on my Services & Prices page.

I accept cash and card payments, including contactless.

I work exclusively with Dermaviduals — a professional-grade skincare range based on corneotherapy, the science of repairing and supporting the skin’s natural barrier. These products are tailored to each client’s skin chemistry and are not available on the high street. I chose Dermaviduals because they work with your skin, not against it.

WAXING

I won’t pretend it’s painless — but most clients are surprised by how manageable it is. Speed and technique make a real difference, and I’ve spent 17 years refining both. The more regularly you wax, the more comfortable it becomes, as hair grows back finer over time.

About the length of a grain of rice — roughly 5mm. If you’ve been shaving, I’d recommend waiting around 2–3 weeks for enough regrowth. If your hair is too short, the wax can’t grip it properly. If it’s too long, I can trim it for you before we start.

For best results, I recommend every 4–6 weeks depending on the area. Regular waxing weakens the hair follicle over time, which means less regrowth and a more comfortable experience with each visit.

Yes. I use high-quality wax that is gentle on sensitive skin, and I adjust my technique based on your skin type and the area being treated. If you have any concerns about sensitivity, allergies, or skin conditions, let me know before your appointment so I can make sure everything is comfortable for you.

A Bikini wax tidies the sides and top of the bikini line — what would be visible in underwear or a swimsuit. A Brazilian removes most of the hair from the front and underneath, leaving a small strip or triangle at the front. A Hollywood removes everything — front, back, and underneath. Not sure which is right for you? Just ask — there’s nothing I haven’t heard.

Absolutely. Many of my clients combine treatments in a single visit — for example, a Hollywood wax with an underarm and upper lip wax. When you book online, you can add multiple services to the same appointment. If you’re not sure how much time to allow, just get in touch and I’ll help you plan your visit.

FACIALS & SKIN ANALYSIS

A Skin Analysis is a one-hour consultation where I assess your skin using professional analyser technology, review your current skincare routine, and give you personalised recommendations. It’s the ideal starting point if you’re new to professional skin treatments or want to understand what your skin really needs. No treatment is performed during this session. £30 for one hour.

Most salon facials follow a set menu — the same steps and products for every client. My approach is different. I assess your skin at the start of every session and build the treatment around what your skin needs that day. The products, techniques, and focus areas are all chosen specifically for you. It’s the difference between a one-size-fits-all routine and a genuinely personalised treatment.

I strongly recommend it, especially if it’s your first visit. A Skin Analysis helps me understand your skin properly before we begin any treatment. It means your facial will be tailored to what your skin actually needs — not just based on a quick look. It also gives us time to talk through your skincare routine and goals without any time pressure. You can book both together or start with the analysis and book your facial later.

Dermalux LED is a non-invasive light therapy that uses three clinically proven wavelengths to stimulate your skin’s natural repair. Red light boosts collagen and elastin. Blue light targets acne-causing bacteria. Near-Infrared calms inflammation and supports deep healing. I use the professional-grade Dermalux Flex MD — medically CE-certified and FDA-approved.

For most skin types, I recommend a facial every 4–6 weeks. This works with your skin’s natural renewal cycle and allows each treatment to build on the last. Some skin concerns may benefit from a more intensive course initially. I’ll always give you honest advice about what frequency is right for you during your Skin Analysis.

Absolutely — in fact, sensitive skin is one of the areas I work with most. Because every facial is bespoke, I choose products and techniques specifically for your skin on the day. Dermaviduals products are designed to support and repair the skin barrier, which makes them ideal for reactive, sensitised, or easily irritated skin.

Dermaviduals is a professional-grade skincare brand based on corneotherapy — the science of repairing and supporting your skin’s natural barrier. The products are custom-blended to match each client’s individual skin chemistry. They’re not available on the high street and can only be prescribed after a professional consultation. I chose Dermaviduals because they work with your skin’s natural processes, not against them — and in my experience, that’s what delivers real, lasting results.

A facial can certainly be relaxing — and many of my clients find the experience very calming. But a bespoke facial is much more than that. It’s a targeted skin health treatment designed to address specific concerns like dehydration, sensitivity, congestion, or premature ageing. Relaxation is a welcome side effect, but real skin improvement is the goal.

PELVIC FLOOR

HIEMT (High-Intensity Electromagnetic Technology) strengthens pelvic floor muscles through thousands of contractions in a single 30-minute session. You sit fully clothed on the treatment chair. There’s no discomfort and no recovery time needed. It’s a non-invasive way to strengthen the muscles that support your bladder, bowel, and core.

No. The sensation is strong but not painful. I control the intensity throughout and adjust it to your comfort level. Most clients describe it as an unusual but manageable feeling — like a strong vibration or pulsing. You can read, use your phone, or just relax during the session.

I recommend a course of 6 sessions for the best results, ideally twice a week. Many clients notice a difference after just 2–3 sessions, but a full course gives the muscles time to strengthen and rebuild properly. After your initial course, maintenance sessions every 4–6 weeks help maintain your results.

Yes, in most cases. I recommend waiting at least 3 months after a C-section, and you should always check with your GP or midwife before starting. The treatment is non-invasive and doesn’t put any pressure on your abdomen. Many post-natal clients find HIEMT particularly helpful for rebuilding pelvic floor strength.

Not at all. The treatment takes place in a private room, and you remain fully clothed throughout. From the outside, it looks like any other appointment at a beauty treatment room. Your privacy and comfort are always my priority.

HIEMT pelvic floor treatment is suitable for most women. It’s particularly popular with women who experience bladder weakness after childbirth, during perimenopause or menopause, or anyone who wants to strengthen their pelvic floor without surgery or invasive procedures. If you’re unsure whether it’s right for you, feel free to get in touch and I’ll be happy to advise.

BODY TREATMENTS

Most clients feel intense cold for the first few minutes, followed by numbness. It’s not painful — more unusual than uncomfortable. You can read, use your phone, or just relax during the session.

Most clients see visible results after 1–3 sessions, depending on the area and the amount of fat being treated. Results develop gradually over 8–12 weeks as your body naturally processes the frozen fat cells. I’ll give you honest advice during your consultation about how many sessions are likely to be needed.

No — fat freezing is a body contouring treatment, not a weight loss solution. It targets specific areas of stubborn fat that don’t respond well to diet and exercise, such as love handles, belly fat, or bra fat. It works best for clients who are at or near their target weight and want to refine specific areas.

Most clients start noticing changes after 4–6 weeks, with full results typically visible after 8–12 weeks. The body needs time to naturally process and eliminate the frozen fat cells. I’ll always give you realistic expectations during your consultation.

It feels like a gentle, rhythmic squeezing — similar to a deep but comfortable massage. Inflatable leg boots compress and release in a wave-like pattern, encouraging lymphatic drainage and circulation. Most clients find it very relaxing. Many fall asleep during the session.

Yes — pressotherapy works beautifully as an add-on to facial treatments. It supports lymphatic flow and helps reduce puffiness, which complements the results of a facial. You can add a pressotherapy session to your facial booking for just £20 (5 minutes). I also offer standalone sessions at £30 (30 minutes) or £40 (45 minutes).

ELECTROLYSIS

You may feel a brief, sharp sensation with each hair — most clients describe it as very manageable. The more regularly you have treatment, the more comfortable it becomes as hair grows back finer. I adjust the intensity based on the area and your comfort level.

It depends on the area, the amount of hair, and your hair growth cycle. Electrolysis is the only method recognised as permanent hair removal, but it requires a course of sessions because hair grows in cycles. I’ll give you an honest estimate during your first appointment. Most clients see significant reduction after 6–12 sessions.

Yes — this is one of the key advantages of electrolysis over laser. Electrolysis works on all hair colours, including blonde, white, grey, and red hair. It also works on all skin tones. It’s the only permanent hair removal method that is truly effective regardless of hair or skin colour.

Advanced electrolysis can help with a range of common skin blemishes including skin tags, thread veins (spider veins), milia (small white bumps), blood spots (cherry angiomas), and spider naevi. I assess each blemish before treatment and explain exactly what to expect. Prices start from £30 for a 15-minute session.

Minimal. The treated area may be slightly red immediately after the session — similar to a minor insect bite — but this usually settles within a few hours. I’ll give you simple aftercare instructions to follow. Most clients carry on with their day as normal straight after treatment.

Electrolysis and laser both target unwanted hair, but they work differently. Laser uses light energy and is most effective on dark hair against lighter skin — it’s not suitable for blonde, white, grey, or red hair. Electrolysis uses a tiny probe to treat each hair follicle individually and works on ALL hair colours and skin tones. Electrolysis is also the only method classified as permanent hair removal. I offer electrolysis because it gives reliable results for every client.

Yes. Electrolysis is the only hair removal method recognised as truly permanent by the medical community. Once a hair follicle has been successfully treated, it cannot regrow. However, because hair grows in cycles, a course of sessions is needed to catch every hair in its active growth phase.

LASHES & BROWS

A lash lift typically lasts 6–8 weeks, following your natural lash growth cycle. Most clients rebook once they notice their lashes returning to their natural position. No maintenance is needed in between — just enjoy them.

No. A lash lift works with your natural lashes — it’s essentially a perm for your lashes that lifts and curls them from the root. Unlike lash extensions, there’s nothing added or glued on, so there’s no weight or tension on your natural lashes. Your lashes are left healthy and strong.

Yes — a patch test is required at least 24 hours before any lash lift, eyelash tint, or eyebrow tint if it’s your first time having the treatment with me. This is a safety requirement to check for any allergic reactions to the products used. The patch test is free and only takes a few minutes. You can pop in or book it alongside an appointment.

A Brow Tint & Reshape includes shaping your eyebrows using wax to create a clean, defined shape, followed by a tint to enhance the colour and add depth. I’ll choose a tint shade that complements your natural colouring. The whole treatment takes around 30 minutes and costs £28.

Semi-permanent eyebrows typically last 12–18 months, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. A top-up session is usually recommended after the initial treatment to perfect the shape and colour. I’ll talk you through everything including aftercare during your appointment.

Absolutely — and many clients do. A lash lift with a brow tint and reshape is one of my most popular combinations. When you book online, you can add multiple treatments to the same appointment. If you’re not sure how much time to allow, just get in touch and I’ll help you plan your visit.
