How It All Started

My Journey

My path to beauty therapy wasn’t a straight line. I trained as a chef, worked in restaurant service in Cyprus, and quickly realised that world wasn’t for me. Then I tried a nail extension course — and something clicked. For the first time, I stayed in one field for longer than six months. I knew I’d found my calling.

Looking back, I believe everything happens for a reason. That winding path gave me something a straight career never could — perspective.

Originally from Riga, Latvia, I spent three years working in one of the city’s top salons. That experience set my professional standards early: attention to detail, genuine client care, and a refusal to cut corners. These aren’t extras I add on. They’re my baseline.

When I moved to the UK, I retrained from scratch — completing my Beauty Therapy Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications. I then built my own practice in Kirkham, one client at a time.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Training That Goes Beyond the Basics

I am a certified practitioner of the Florence Barrett-Hill Pastiche method — a science-led approach to skin analysis and treatment. Rather than following a set facial menu, I assess each client’s skin on the day and build a treatment around what that skin actually needs.

My training covers LED light therapy, high frequency, Gua Sha, micro-current therapy, and micro-needling. Each modality is selected based on the individual — never applied as a one-size-fits-all routine.

Continuous professional development matters to me. Every qualification I hold represents real study and practice, not a weekend workshop.

A Philosophy Built on Honesty

My Approach

My approach to skincare comes down to one principle: I treat every client’s skin the way I’d want my own treated.

That means no rushing through appointments. No pushing products for the sake of a sale. No promising perfect skin in two sessions. Skin health is a journey, and I’m upfront about that from the start.

I educate my clients — explaining what’s happening in their skin and why, before recommending any treatment. If a product or procedure isn’t right for someone, I’ll say so. That honesty is what keeps my clients coming back, many of them for years.

THE PRODUCTS I TRUST

Why Dermaviduals?

I work exclusively with Dermaviduals, a professional-grade skincare range based on corneotherapy — the science of repairing and supporting the skin’s natural barrier.

These aren’t products you’ll find on the high street. Dermaviduals formulations are tailored to each client’s skin chemistry, which is why they work differently from off-the-shelf alternatives. I chose this brand because it aligns with everything I believe about skincare: address the cause, not just the symptoms.

What Makes Maria Different

I Know How It Feels

When I learned waxing, I practised on myself first. I know exactly what every procedure feels like — which is why my clients consistently say my treatments are more comfortable than anything they’ve experienced elsewhere.

Perfectionist Execution

During my UK training, I noticed that many students didn’t care about precision. I do. Every treatment is performed with full attention and care, whether it’s a ten-minute brow wax or a hundred-minute signature facial.

Science-Based Skincare

I don’t guess. I analyse skin using the Pastiche method, identify root causes, and build treatments around evidence — not trends.

Cross-Cultural Perspective

Latvian training standards, UK qualifications, and the personal experience of building a career in a new country give me a broader perspective than most locally trained therapists. I bring the best of both worlds to my practice.
