Question 1

Is red LED light therapy safe for mature skin?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Red LED is one of the gentlest professional treatments for mature skin specifically because it does not break the barrier or rely on heat. It is suitable for clients in their fifties, sixties, and beyond, including skin that has been over-exfoliated or compromised by previous aggressive routines. I screen for the few medical contraindications at consultation.

Question 2

How is red LED light therapy different from near-infrared?

Accepted Answer

Red LED works in the visible red wavelength range, around 633 nanometres, targeting the surface and mid-skin layers where collagen-producing fibroblasts sit. Near-infrared works at longer wavelengths and reaches deeper tissue. Many professional panels, including Dermalux, combine both. For visible anti-ageing change, the red wavelengths do most of the surface work.

Question 3

Does red LED light therapy erase wrinkles?

Accepted Answer

No. Red LED is not a wrinkle eraser. What it does, over a course, is soften the appearance of fine lines, even out tone, and improve the way the skin reflects light. The improvement is real and visible, but it is supportive rather than erasive. I will not tell you otherwise.

Question 4

How many red LED sessions do I need to see a difference?

Accepted Answer

I recommend ten to twelve sessions, two per week, across four to six weeks. Most clients notice tone and brightness shift between the fourth and sixth session. Texture changes are more visible toward the end of the course. After the initial course, one or two sessions per month maintain the result.

Question 5

Can I use my home red LED mask alongside studio sessions?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with realistic expectations. Home masks deliver a fraction of the dose of a professional panel because the diode density and wavelength accuracy are lower. They can support a maintenance phase between studio courses, but they do not replace the course itself. Bring yours to the consultation and I will tell you honestly what it adds.

Question 6

Does red LED therapy hurt or have downtime?

Accepted Answer

No discomfort and no downtime. The treatment runs around twenty minutes, you wear eye shields with your eyes closed, and the panel produces no heat. Most clients describe it as the most relaxing twenty minutes of their week. You can apply makeup or moisturiser immediately after the session, and you walk out of the studio and resume your day.
