A Hollywood wax in Kirkham removes
every hair from the intimate area — front, back, and everything between. At my studio the appointment runs around 30 minutes, costs £38, and uses warm hard wax chosen for sensitive skin. Most first-timers tell me
it’s far less uncomfortable than they had feared.
If you’re thinking about booking your first Hollywood wax in Kirkham, I know how much goes through your head before you even open the booking page. Will it hurt? How do I prepare? What exactly is a Hollywood wax — and is it really that different from a Brazilian? These are the questions I hear every single week at my studio.
I’m Maria. I’ve been waxing clients for 20 years, and intimate waxing is one of the treatments I perform most often. Over time I’ve trained myself to work quickly, precisely, and as comfortably as possible — partly because I learned on my own skin first. I know exactly what it feels like on the other side of the couch.
Here’s everything worth knowing before your appointment, from a therapist who does this every day, not a general beauty blogger.
What exactly is a Hollywood wax?
A Hollywood wax is a full intimate wax — all of the hair is removed from the front, the labia, and between the cheeks. Nothing is left behind.
It’s the most thorough intimate waxing option, and it’s also the one most of my regular clients book. Skin stays smooth for roughly three to four weeks before regrowth becomes visible, depending on your hair cycle.
I only use professional hard wax on this area. Hard wax grips the hair, not the skin, which makes the experience much kinder than the strip wax you might have seen in films or on social media. No cloth strips, no tugging at the skin itself.
Hollywood vs Brazilian — the simple difference
The two terms get used interchangeably online, so it’s worth being clear.
- Brazilian wax — most of the hair is removed, but a small landing strip or triangle is left at the front.
- Hollywood wax — everything is taken off. No strip, no triangle, nothing left behind.
When you book at my Kirkham studio, the service is listed as Hollywood/Brazilian Wax at £38. I’ll ask on the day which one you’d like. There’s no right or wrong choice — it’s your body and your preference, and plenty of clients change their mind between appointments.
How I keep your Hollywood wax comfortable
The biggest worry I hear from new clients is the pain. I’ll be honest with you: an intimate wax is not completely painless. Anyone who tells you that is selling you something. But the difference between a rushed, stressful wax and a calm, skilled one is enormous — and that’s where experience matters.
Here’s what I do differently:
- Warm, low-temperature hard wax. Gentler on the skin than strip wax. No shock, no residue pulling at the surrounding area.
- Small sections, quick rhythm. I work in short, controlled strokes so the sensation is over before your brain catches up.
- Skin stretch, not skin pull. Holding the skin taut during removal is what reduces discomfort most. It’s a technique most people never see, and it makes all the difference.
- I talk you through every step. Especially if it’s your first time. Knowing what’s happening next calms the body down, which genuinely lowers the sensation.
- Post-wax care on the spot. I apply a soothing lotion straight after, so you leave calm, not red.
Nearly every first-timer says the same thing when they get dressed: “That wasn’t as bad as I thought.” That’s the goal.
How to prepare for your appointment
A little preparation makes a real difference to your comfort — and to your result.
- Hair length matters. Your hair should be at least 5 mm long, roughly the size of a grain of rice. Too short and the wax can’t grip properly. If you’ve shaved recently, give it two to three weeks to grow back before booking.
- Exfoliate gently the day before. A soft scrub in the shower lifts dead skin and reduces the chance of ingrown hairs afterwards. Nothing harsh — this area doesn’t need aggressive exfoliation.
- Skip the caffeine and alcohol on the day. Both can make the skin feel more sensitive. A glass of water and a normal breakfast are far better preparation than a double espresso.
- Avoid waxing the week before your period. Many clients find skin is at its most sensitive in the few days leading up to their cycle. Mid-cycle tends to be the most comfortable window.
- Wear loose, breathable clothing. Cotton underwear, a comfortable skirt, or loose trousers. Nothing tight immediately after.
What to do (and avoid) for 48 hours after
The first two days after a Hollywood wax matter more than most people realise. Freshly waxed skin has open follicles, which makes it more vulnerable until it settles.
For 48 hours, please avoid:
- Hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, or very hot showers
- Sunbeds or direct sun on the area
- The gym or anything that causes heavy sweating
- Tight clothing, lace, or synthetic underwear
- Perfumed products, exfoliating scrubs, or strong active ingredients on the area
After 48 hours, I recommend gentle exfoliation two or three times a week. It’s the single best thing you can do to prevent ingrown hairs long-term. If you’re unsure which product suits your skin, I’m happy to suggest a professional-grade option from the Dermaviduals range I use in clinic — the same skin-barrier-friendly approach I trust for my own skin.
Many of my regular waxing clients eventually ask me about their skin — dryness on the legs, bumps after shaving, redness that won’t calm down. If that sounds like you, my skin consultation is the easiest place to start. It’s £30, takes about an hour, and you leave with a clear picture of what your skin actually needs — before you spend another pound on products that aren’t right for you.
You don’t have to decide today. It’s simply good to know the option is there when you’re ready.
